SOLmaker Space

WHY SUCH A SPACE?

  • Need for practical courses / labs regarding electronics, energy access, solar energy and batteries
  • Encouraging students to start something of their own requires as “can-do” or “Maker” attitude
  • Tinkering, soldering, repairing and building (“Maker attitude”) things supports learning process, but not very present in modern engineering education

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

  • Prototype a concept for replicable, low-cost “Open Source Makerspace” electronic labs with a focus on encouraging hands-on
  • Training for students in tinkering, soldering, repurposing, building
  • Focus on solar energy (with an long-term goal toward other renewables)
  • Provide course modules+material to practically support learning in the different solar energy areas

WHAT IS THE RESULT?

  • Setup and handover of local Makerspace as a concept worth spreading
  • Direct capacity building and development of local know-how on renewable microenergy systems
  • Strengthening local engineering and handycraft capacity as a key enabler for a  growing green-tech industry
